The alfalfa is an improving species and this is contemplated in the requirements of the CAP and ecosystems, specifically in the sections of GAEC7 and EcoRegime P3:
– GAEC7 / Crop Rotation is what is called Enhanced Cross Compliance and is mandatory. Depending on the farm you can grow 2 or 3 crops, and if you have more than 75% of the arable land under alfalfa, as it is a leguminous and permanent crop you are already complying with this regulation.
– In the EcoRegime P3 of Better Crops Rotation, the farmer can voluntarily apply for the regulation and will receive an additional aid as long as he follows a series of requirements.
