Reasons for introducing alfalfa in production systems -2
The dry matter content of dehydrated alfalfa is normally between 88 and 92%, which is an important parameter in establishing the cost of a forage. In general, the higher the dry matter content, the higher the price of the product because the important thing is the nutrient content, not the water content.
For example, in a dehydrated alfalfa with 95% dry matter, for every 1000 kg we will be paying for 9550 kg of nutrients and 50 kg of water. If the dry matter content is 90%, we will have paid for 100 kg of water and only 900 kg of nutrients.
